2008 Harley Davidson Road King Classic approaching 10,000 miles.?
It’s time to replace the oil in the Primary chaincase, among other things. I heard you can use the synthetic motor oil, ( screamin’ eagle 20/50) for transmission, primary chaincase and the engine as well. I was wondering if this is a true statement. has anyone heard of this ??
HDRIDER has the best way to go for the trans. I have been running Redline 85/140 in the trans on mine and my customers bikes for years, they run smooother, quieter and shift easier. HD doesn’t really know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to lubricants. For 20 years, they said to NEVER run synthetic in their engines, then guess what, they developed their own synthetic and said to run it in everything. S&S recommends Mobil 1, but 2 other EXCELLENT oils out there are AMSOIL and LUCAS. I am a distributor for AMSOIL, but have actaully switched over to LUCAS lately, to see how it works out, so far seems to be same quality as AMSOIL. As far as what oil to run in the Primary, which ever 25/50 you run in the engine will do just fine in the primary.
Regarding the 10k service on your bike. For decades, HD said to change the fork oil every 10k, recently they switched to 20k….that is way to long between intervals. I have had to replace all the fork bushings on bikes that had gone to HD’s new 20k interval. HD’s Type E for oil is SHIT!!!! especially for heavier bikes like a FLHR. Have you fork oil changed and use SCREAMIN EAGLE HEAVY fork oil, it will lubricate everything inside the forks much better, you will have a better ride and less nose dive under braking. And also make sure the steering head bearing get greased and adjusted.
