Defender Black
My desktop wont load, only a popup from the virus Desktop Defender 2010. What do I do?
I have Windows Vista.
I tried running a scan the other day, but no virus results.
Now nothing on my laptop will load except a popup from Desktop Defender 2010. The rest is just a black screen.
What am I supposed to do?

Alright, here’s what you must do to restore your desktop. First, use Control-Alt-Delete to open up Window’s Task Manager. From there, go to Processes and delete the “Desktop Defender 2010″ process. This will not fix all the problems, but should stop Defender from completely holding your computer for ransom like this.
Next, while still in Task Manager, hit the “New Task” button. In the box where it says “Open:” type in “explorer.exe.” then “OK.” This should restore your desktop. Now, the next step is to look online for either a step-by-step manual process to delete all the files and edit the registry created by the malicious program, or you can go to Malwarebytes.org and download the latest version of the anti-malware scanner. After that, run a scan with it and it might uninstall the program for you, however this did not work when the virus hit my own computer.
One last thing you might try is to go into your Control Panel, then System and Maintenance, Go to Restore Files from Backup. Then, it will probably tell you you have no backup files, but will give you a link to System Restore. System Restore will give you several checkpoints to check back upon so that you may restore your system to the state it was in on a previous date. Simply restore it to a date previous to your infection with Desktop Defender 2010.
System Restore may be blocked by Desktop Defender 2010, however, so you may have to look up some guides online for further instruction.
