Should I practice on my new Ninja or buy a used dual purpose dirt bike?
to practice on? I bought a 2009 Ninja 250cc today. I practiced a little bit and everything went fine. But I keep hearing these horrible stories about how new riders damage their bikes and get into car accidents. Someone is selling his dual purpose dirt bike for 1000$, should I buy it and use it for practice? Or should I just use my Ninja?
I have a 2009 Ninja 250r.
The Ninja 250 is probably one of the best beginner bikes out there in terms of learning to ride, weight, and control BUT because of those lovely fairings, will usually cost a decent amount if you tip it over (crack a side fairing and you are out a couple hundred bucks).
If you are seriously worried about accidents, the best advice for any rider is to take the MSF course. Your insurance rates will go down and you will learn a ton in terms of the basics.
Finally, practice, practice, practice. Find any empty lot in the mornings or evenings and practice U-turns, stop-and-go’s, swerves, etc. to get a feel for the bike and how to maneuver comfortably and safely.
Personally, I’d use the bike you have now. If you want to ride a ninja, practice riding with the ninja.
