What is a ideal first car when he just turned 16?

I just turned 16 and I got my license and I have some good ideas for a first car. Must be nice and cheap and very reliable.

a used car. Probably the foreigners do seem more reliable. and something good on gas. I a 1998 Mazda Protect, receives about 20 mph gal, which is good since they have a job yet.
