Vance and Hines Pro Pipe Review

It isn’t very often when you find a set of pipes for your Harley Davidson that have no flaws but I would swear that to be the case with the Vance and Hines Pro Pipes. If you have never had the luxury of owning a pair of Vance and Hines pipes then that is a shame. I’ve used them on a number of motorcycles over the years from Metric sportbikes and cruisers to Harley Davidsons so I am pretty familiar with them. The quality is always consistent and they perform well. The pipe I am reviewing today is one I have used many times and that is the Vance and Hines Pro Pipe.

I am a big fan of the 2 into 1 Harley Pipe anyways and the Vance and Hines Pro Pipe fits that bill nicely. A 2 into 1 pipe from one of my favorite manufacturers, so here are my thoughts on the pipe.

Vance and Hines Fit and Finish Vance and Hines pipes in general will fit your bike like a glove. I have installed over a dozen of these pipes on various motorcycles over the years and never had a single fit issue. They are machined and formed properly and the engineers take the time to make sure they fit like a glove. The Vance and Hines Pro Pipe is no different, it fits your bike like a glove.

Vance Hines recently changed the way they chrome their pipes and they now use their “blue proof” technology across the entire length of the pipe including the muffler body. In recent years it has only been applied to the heat shields and this is a nice addition to ensure your pipes look new for as long as possible.

I will say that the chrome finish on any Vance and Hines pipe is going to be consistently some of the best finish around on any Harley Pipes on the market. You will not be disappointed with the fit or finish of the Vance and Hines Pro Pipe.

Vance and Hines Pro Pipe Sound 2 into 1 Harley pipes have a very distinct sound that you will either love or hate. They sound different than the usual 2 into 2 pipes you might be more familiar with but I happen to prefer the sound of the 2 into 1 myself. A 2 into 1 Harley pipe is typically quieter than a 2 into 2 at idle and midrange and then it will start to wail at wide open throttle.

I will say that if you are a loud pipe fan then the Pro Pipe might not be for you. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely has a deep, healthy exhaust note that I can only describe as having more bass to it than a typical 2 into 2 pipe. The deep, gutteral exhaust note is one of the sweetest sounds I’ve ever heard. I think you’ll be a big fan.

Vance and Hines 2 into 1 Power Power increases are always something you need to take with a grain of salt. I say this because it will depend dramatically on your existing state of tune and your current pipe as to how much of an increase you will see with this pipe. Typically you will see a strong increase from a 2 into 1 pipe in the useable torque range which is where you spend the majority of your time riding your bike.

The way a 2 into 1 harley pipe works its magic is that the design of the pipe allows for a much better scavenging effect of the cylinder than most traditional 2 into 2 pipes. I don’t claim to know the physics behind this but I can tell you from riding hundreds of these bikes that it happens. This increased scavenging will improve torque in the 1500 to 4000 rpm range significantly on most bikes and it will feel a lot stronger. This again, depends on the pipes and the tune of the bike before you install this exhaust but that is what typically happens.

Conclusion As you can see…I am a big fan of both 2 into Harley pipes and the Vance and Hines Pro Pipe is an outstanding example of one of these pipes. It offers one of the nicest fits and finishes available from a manufacturer that you can trust to stand behind their products.

The Vance and Hines Pro Pipe looks right, it sounds right and it will fit your bike right. If you are in the market for a new set of pipes for your Harley then the Vance and Hines Pro Pipe is one you should give a strong look at, you won’t be disappointed.
