Honda Motorcycle Gas Tanks

Honda Motorcycle Gas Tanks
73 Honda Motorcycle wont stay running!?

I have a 73 Honda CB350K5. We started it up after it sat for 20 years. Carbs have been gutted and thouroughly cleaned, starts up and runs for about 5 seconds then dies out. Bowls on the carbs are getting nice clean gas in em. No pops from the exhaust runs really good with a steady stream of Starting fluid. Feels like it’s starving for gas but I cant seem to figure out why! Fuel lines are clean from the tank to the carbs gas runs out of them nicely floats work well in the carbs

You’re not getting gas.

At the fuel switch there is a bowl and a filter inside that bowl. Set the fuel switch to off and remove the bowl. Clean out any crud and gum that’s in the bottom of the bowl and spray the filter screen through with the aerosol from a can of carb cleaner – but at a distance. Start from two feet away until you can safely spray through the screen without damaging it. This is just to ensure there is no gum residue.

Pop the gas line from one carb and then another as you turn on the fuel for a moment. If you get a trickle to barely none then there is dried crud in one or both lines which restricts gas flow. Maybe you can blow it out or force it clean with the force of a can of aerosol carb cleaner. If that’s doesn’t work, then replace the hoses. General fuel line that will fit the fittings of your carbs and fuel petcock works just fine.

You may be using CV carbs which means there is an air diaphragm that is controlling the air intake cylinder. But I’m sure you noticed that when you had the carbs apart and made sure they were moving freely.

I think the next time you get it running just sit on the bike and take it around and around. Sometimes you just have to blow-out all the cobwebs with a run around the block or around the parking lot for several miles. Remember that everything hasn’t moved on that bike for 20 years.

The CB350 was a rock solid bike. It will run.
