Lubricating oil is a Sturmey-Archer AW center totally different to a greased?

In one of my bikes former owner has replaced the cube with one side (1991) greased the shaft. I do not like, because they require regular dismantling to replace fat. I prefer the first with an oil cap. I wondered whether it would possible simply to drill a small hole in the side housing and install a plug for him to make the lubricating oil. Would this work?

I do not see why you could not not do it. Be sure to match the position of the hole with an existing platform … and no metal shavings in the works!
