How many pounds of force needed to push a piston in the power stroke of a typical 4-cylinder engine
Even the idle should be very strong, because the valve springs must be compressed, and one of the cylinders is coming to compression so that any resistance must be overcome. I built the engines and I can tell you that you need a long handled ratchet to turn an engine by hand if it is built and adjusted the valves properly seal. Remove candles and you can spin the pulley by turning the fan belt by hand. I had never seen a number, but judging by how hard you have to press the ratchet I would say that 100 lbs.
