would you go on fox and declare excitedly With passion and outrage that arctic sea ice is increasing?

I wouldn’t. Joe Bastardi would, but he’s kind of an idiot.

Man, whenever I see a scientific question in the Politics section, I’m always amazed at how bad the answers are. I mean there are bad answers in the Global Warming section, but there are also people who really know their stuff. Here it seems like nobody can even read a simple graph.

At least 3 other answerers made comments about ice thickness. This graph is of sea ice extent and tells us nothing about thickness. One other answerer even claimed “Artic Ice is over 2 inches thicker than average norm.” No supporting evidence, and not surprisingly could not be more wrong.

As you can see here, the older, thicker ice has been steadily declining.

Bottom line – there was a slight rebound in Arctic sea ice extent in late March due to some local weather, as discussed by NSIDC, who also point out “The late date of the maximum extent, though of special interest this year, is unlikely to have an impact on summer ice extent. The ice that formed late in the season is thin, and will melt quickly when temperatures rise.”

But global warming deniers don’t have much good news, so they have to take what they can get. That’s why they also spazzed out on Fox News when it snowed on the US east coast this winter. Imagine that, snow in winter!
