Softail Cross Bones
Is it cheaper to build your own bike or buy one?
I want a HD Softail Deluxe or HD Cross Bone…. can a bike like this be built in your garage for alot less?
Key here is the word ‘alot’. Quick answer is no. As a manufacturer of v twin bikes we find it very difficult (read impossible) to come in with a production bike at the same price as HD and we have buying power… machines… we make our own frames, etc. Now you may get other answers that it is possible, but not if you want a comparable bike… with a wiring harness, proper electrics etc. I’ve been around people who say they throw together “choppers” with remanufactured HD 80 inch EVO’s and swap meet parts for less but that is hardley comparable to a Softail Deluxe. Our cheapest softail with an HD twin cam 88 (carb) retails for around 22,500.00. Most garage guy’s find it almost impossible to stay under 25,000.00.
