Ford dealership or Walmart for my oil change? Its a ford 1999 Mustang GT if it matters.?
The stupid Ford dealership put 5W20 oil in it last time, the car manual calls for 10W30 not to mention its going for a 1200 mile drive and is 10 years old. So 10W30 or 10W40 is an must, and i dont exactly trust the Ford place, i feel like if i told them to put 10W30 in it they would just put 5W20 in it again and lie to me.
Any personal opinions? Does Ford actually carry a 10W30 Motor-craft oil?
The last time I had my oil changed at Wal-Mart they stripped the threads on my oil pan drain plug then denied doing it and wouldn’t fix it. Wasn’t a big deal to get a self threading plug and make a new plug but they wouldn’t even do that. I was lucky to catch the oil leaking out on the driveway from their carelessness. I am not saying all Wal-Mart shops are bad because everyone makes mistakes even the new car dealerships shops as well. Get yourself into the habit of checking the ground after you have your oil changed to make sure it isn’t leaking out or you can get a large piece of cardboard and put under your car and check it the next morning to see if the oil is leaking out. I would expect the Ford dealer to have 10W30 oil in stock since it is a very popular oil. Maybe the mechanic was not paying attention to what he/she was doing and put the wrong oil in it. I believe it it were me I would have taken the car back to them and told them to put the correct oil in it per the car manual. Best way to make sure it is done correctly is to do it yourself if you can or have a place to do the work inside.
