is a vw cabrio a good car for when winter comes around?

i have a 2001 vw cabrio,i love it,it is my only car,just bought 3 months ago, i live in minnesota so its snows alot here, the thing is it only has one setting for windshield wipers,is there any way i can make it so it has more than one setting,its to slow for harsh rains,plus the abs light keeps turning on and off,but im not sure there is anything wrong with the abs,becuase we took it to the vw dealership, and they didnt find anything wrong with it and said it might be the wiring, but any ways it is a convertible(soft top not hard), with heated seats and climate control,is this a good car for winter? and how can i fix the wiring,they cant do it at the vw place we go to.

The experience I have had with “rag tops” was with a 65 MGB and that was ininsulated vinyl. It worked OK through the snows and cold temps(as the top was relatively new) but if I could have got a hard top for it – I would have(as the MG heating was the pits. But I went to the ski hills with it.
I know that VW do have insulated rag tops…as Germany is more northern than the US…so there is snow. I would not feel too concerned about it. In England they mainly have rain so for the MGB it faired only OK. So I expect more comfort in VW. Heated seats is a bonus. As for handling in the snow….if you can drive and you got decent snow tires, you won’t get stuck anywhere.
Now it sounds like your VW dealership is not an authorized dealership(these guys are just claiming that they can fix VW’s) which they cannot or do not want to do. A true VW shop will take your car and fix the problem and when it is electrical, expect to pay for it. Not only in VW, but in all shops.
As ABS is part of the braking system, get the brake system looked at. That does not have to be done at VW. Any brake shop can do that.. As for the windshield wiper, it should be multiple speed so either the switch is worn out or the high speed control is in the signal light lever. Maybe find a manual about your car(roughly the same year) in the public library and read up about your problems in troubleshooting section. The problem may be simpler than you think. No particular author(although I prefer repair books by “Chilton publications”. Clymer works too, but wiring may not be their strong point. Grab a couple of books for a couple of days and compare solutions.
