Traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway in May 2007 On a H-D Ultra Classic?

Just wanted to know any good travel tips about traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway from anyone who done it on a mototcycle. I hear gas stops are few and far between (I get about 160 miles on a tank…any good places to stop for gas). Any obvious dangers to be aware of? Are the roads fairly wide and safe…alway got to watch out for the other guy. Thanks for any and all help…details would be great!

The one fuel stop left on the BRP is closed. Now, as far as I know, there are no fuel stops on the parkway itself. But locations are well marked on the parkway so that you know when to exit for fuel, food and lodging.

The road surface for the most part are just shy of great. There are places where repairs have been made, etc that it’s a little rough, but that’s it, and I’m stretching things just to report that.

Lots of pull offs for checking out the views and sights and there are several points of interest right on the parkway itself. Mabry Mill just north of the NC/VA line comes immediately to mind.

Check out The Stations Inn off Hwy 18 in NC if your through on a week-end. It’s an interesting diversion, and right off the parkway.

If your going to have some time to ride and want to get off the parkway at times for some really good local routes that will wind around and take you back to the parkway let me know. I’ll suggest some roads you might enjoy.
